Horizontal air receivers - ASME Section VIII Div 1 carbon-steel receiver, saddle-mounted
Low-ceiling rooms and skid-packaged compressor installs.
The ASME Air Receiver Standard, Made in America.
US-Made. Code-Stamped. Domestic.
Manchester Tank started in 1946 on Manchester Avenue in Los Angeles, making a single product: a 5-gallon propane tank. Over the following decades it added more tank types, grew into a national supplier, and began building air receivers for equipment makers in the 1970s.
Acquisitions of Buckeye Boiler in the 1990s and Brunner Engineering in the 2000s deepened the air receiver and industrial tank lines. McWane, Inc. bought the company in 1999, and the headquarters moved to Tennessee. The compressed-air line today runs from 1-gallon small receivers to 10,000-gallon verticals. The catalog lists every receiver as built to ASME Section VIII Division 1 and registered with the National Board, and most items are also approved in Canada (CRN). A newer plant in Campbellsville, Kentucky, opened in 2020, builds industrial air receivers alongside domestic propane tanks. A second US plant is in Quincy, Illinois. The pitch is simple: tanks made safely in the United States, with the code paperwork already attached. For a vessel that has to pass inspection on arrival and stay in service for years, that is a purchasing decision more than a style preference.
SPC carries Manchester Tank as an direct channel.
Every Manchester Tank receiver SPC sells is ASME Section VIII Div 1 U-stamped and National Board registered.
Vertical, horizontal, and portable ASME receivers from one brand through one distributor.
Low-ceiling rooms and skid-packaged compressor installs.
Extra room on top to mount compressor pumps or accessories.
Compact receivers for equipment builds and small compressors.
Contractor, mobile-service, and frame-mount applications.
Standard stationary receiver for compressor rooms with headroom.
General Manufacturing → Stationary compressor-room receiver on rotary-screw and reciprocating installations.
Automotive Manufacturing → High-capacity receivers supporting body-shop paint and assembly-line pneumatics.
Construction & Infrastructure → Portable ASME receivers for contractor and mobile-service compressor setups.
Metalworking & Fabrication → Compressor-room receivers on fabrication shops requiring ASME-compliant vessels.
Food & Beverage Processing → ASME receivers in food-plant compressor rooms where code documentation is mandatory.
Oil & Gas / Energy → Code-stamped receivers on compressor skids for upstream and midstream service. Leg-mounted verticals suit standard compressor rooms with adequate headroom. Saddle-mounted horizontals fit low-ceiling or skid-packaged installations. The Universal Horizontal (1–30 gal) and Grasshopper (30–240 gal) lines serve contractor, mobile-service, and frame-mount applications.
Receiver volume is typically sized to 1–4 gallons per CFM of compressor output for rotary-screw applications (for pressure stability and reduced cycling). Common verticals run 60–240 gal; larger vessels are manufactured to order, up to 10,000 gal on the vertical line.
Most standard industrial compressors run 100–175 PSI, so a 200 PSI MAWP receiver covers the majority. Receivers up to 240 gal also come in 300 PSI for higher-pressure compressors, and vessels from 400 gal up are offered at 165 or 200 PSI. Never size MAWP below the system's relief-valve set pressure.
Availability and lead time are confirmed per quote. SPC quotes several US ASME tank makers to find the one whose stock, delivery, and price fit the job. Sizes outside the common 60–240 gal range are manufactured to order, so confirm dimensions before the PO is issued.
